“I’m based in New York City but originally from the Capital District,” says Krystal Balzer. “Doing weddings up here is a nice excuse to come home and see family!”

Balzer believes the best photography experiences stem from the strong, personal connection she develops with each of her clients. “Having such a special rapport with my clients allows for more organic, intimate images. I want them to feel like I’m a friend hanging out with them for the day while photographing every moment. eir experience should be fun, genuine and carefree.”

She advises couples to strongly consider a “first look” series of photographs prior to the ceremony. “A first look is a great way to get all of your portraits, both staged and spontaneous, out of the way so you can spend cocktail hour with family and friends and actually enjoy your meal!”

“When I got married, rst looks were a new concept. But that allowed me to kiss, hug and share a moment with my husband that I will cherish for a lifetime.”

Balzer also suggests that the bride create a wedding vision board. “ This allows you to develop your vision and share it with your photographer on Pinterest, which ensures he or she will be even more prepared when the big day arrives!”
